The name Benfried tells the story: founded in 1946 by Ben Lansbergen and Fried Koop, it combines their first names as a lasting tribute to the partnership that built this company. The company has grown from a local Dutch supplier into an internationally recognised name in professional horticulture. From our headquarters in Den Hoorn, Netherlands, we supply growers, greenhouse operators and horticultural businesses in more than 50 countries — combining the reliability of a family-rooted company with the scale and expertise of a modern international supplier.
Over the past 80+ years, we have built a deep knowledge of substrates, fertilizers, crop protection, and horticultural materials. In 2021, Benfried became part of the Arvesta Group, further strengthening our capacity to serve customers across Europe and beyond.

In-house production of Multigrow® rockwool
Since 1995, we have manufactured our own Multigrow® rockwool substrates at our Den Hoorn facility. Our range includes substrates for vegetable cultivation — produced with a formaldehyde-free binder and free of plant-hostile materials for strong root development and natural pest resistance — as well as the Multigrow® Coarse Fibre Plus mat, a multi-year substrate developed specifically for rose cultivation. Because we control production ourselves, we guarantee consistent quality and reliable supply year-round.
